Confirming, as at noon today, that this event is going ahead [bearing in mind I got the OK from each of them last night, not at noon today].
FOCSLE Music's first invitee event of the 'new' 20s.
Originally from Bristol, where he was a member of The Harry Browns, JOHN KNOWLER (vocal, acoustic guitar) has moved down this way in the last 25 years or so. He now appears with Jeff Henry's Ghost Riders. Equally occasional are his attendances at FOCSLE Music, but tonight he brings his energized and humorous delivery of lyrically interesting songs by the famous, not-so-famous, possibly infamous, and himself to The Doghouse for your delectation and delight.
The duo of CLARE CANNING & MIKE DAVIES (vocals, acoustic guitars) provides a complementary second strand to the evening. Clare was last here at Dan O'Farrell's solo gig a year ago [almost to the day!], adding harmony vocal and 2nd guitar to some of his songs. She plays a striking 'blonde' Boulder Creek guitar* (it has a sycamore soundboard), and she appears on the new album by Dan's new-ish band The Difference Engine. All her songs are self-penned "glittering and literate gems of baroque-n-roll folk", in her words. Mike accompanies her on guitar, adding harmony vocals to some numbers. * newish (12/13 years) Californian luthiers, making waves (partly due to their looks) at international festivals out there when first launched
Each of them will deliver approx. 40 mins. of music. Usual Doghouse Guest night arrangements: preliminary singaround; raffle in the break; no formal entry charge — we invite a reasonable consideration in the tin, and/or please buy raffle tickets, which help finance such events. M.C.: Paul Clarke
