Fri. LIVE at “The First”, Bitterne, 8pm:  Guests ANTOINE & OWENA    Their new single "Our Beautiful Days"

Rising duo based in Salisbury (a thinly-served area – e.g. no folk club – in music terms, surprising given the antiquity of its culture and, presumably, myths), ANTOINE & OWENA give the Tradition a definite twist.  Inspired by contemporary and Trad. folk, they create their own musical blend:  a feast for the ears, the heart and the feet.  Combining original material with their own take on some traditional songs, these multi-instrumentalists deliver an eclectic mix of songs and tunes, both slow and uptempo, which enthuse and entertain.
They won Purbeck Valley Folk Festival's Purbeck Rising competition in 2017 and have been going from strength to strength since, with regular festival performances, support for the likes of MARTIN & ELIZA CARTHY and Fairport's DAVE PEGG (and been asked by the man himself to support him again!), and a critically-successful début album, released four years ago.  In 2019, they were finalists in Leigh F. F.'s Rising Talent competition, headlined clubs, and appeared on radio.  Just before the pandemic hit, a mini Spring tour launched their second CD, Something Out Of Nothing, recorded at the prestigious Real World Studios.  It's a mix of traditional and original songs telling of the struggles people have had to overcome in the past, as well as those being faced by this generation.
Their third album, Clockwork Lens, was launched the night after this gig.
Of Welsh extraction, OWENA Archer plays fiddle and sings harmony to ANTOINE Architeuthis' lead vocal, bouzouki and guitar.  He hails from the North:  one of the songs on their second album (Northern Man) is based on his childhood in Doncaster.
