Guitarist and singer PHIL LYONS has always loved British trad and modern folk. He has performed in clubs, village halls, Arts Centres and festivals in the UK and abroad, and with the French music band BOF!, and English band ROSEWOOD. He performs his own folk show, A Sailor’s Life, and has a solo album, Time and Tide — “He is his own man, with a distinctive voice” (Living Tradition).
10th May was the anniversary of The Fo’c’sle Folk Club launch [1963], so we invited back PHIL, a club ex-Resident, as a Guest, [link goes to our “History” page, where the concept of Fo’c’sle Residents is explained, and personnel listed]. He hadn’t played the club since leaving Southampton in 1976!
Evening started with a once-round ‘Singaround’ [= going round the room, inviting anyone who wishes to do one turn, with others harmonizing where appropriate]. We were also graced with some impromptu joining in from long-time FOCSLE Music supporter, another club ex-Resident and South Coast Blues legend PETE HARRIS (who gives us a gig in his own right on Fri. Nov. 11th) and BRIAN HOOPER, who – except for the Blues – is all the above.
