A welcome return for WOMAN WANTS TALL MAN, = Debbie Cassell & Martin Ansell, from Blandford Forum. They play acoustic guitars, banjo, bouzouki and both of them sing and harmonize. They have toured with John Martyn, Van Morrison, Jools Holland and collaborated with Sally Barker and The Poozies. As well as their own songs, they cover many luminaries, including Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny and Bob Dylan. Find their albums on Bandcamp and YouTube.
Their music is a mix of the familiar (last time, Martin raved about our responsive singing) and some pretty cracking self-penned stuff (Never-Never Land perhaps the stand-out). We said in 2019 that we’d definitely be having them back, and here they are!
Singaround before the main act. Usual other stuff: raffle in the break, with alcohol and [usually] confectionery prize[s]; donations go to pay our guests [suggested £8 per person, but pay-as-you-feel]. M.C. Jon Ellis.
The shadow of COVID. Still not beat, with cases rising nationally, it could cause short-notice cancellation at any time. Southampton has just shown a sudden major fall, but numbers are volatile. Case-rate estmates of 7.5%s in the Southampton region, OR 10% in any of these nearby regions [which fall within 15 miles], if they have over 1,000 study-contributors: New Forest, Wiltshire, Test Valley, Eastleigh, Winchester, East Hants., Fareham, Gosport, Portsmouth, would trigger automatic cancellation [at time of typing, 11/6/22, these outer regions aren’t even approaching such nos., Portsmouth [rising fast] & Havant [on the up] are either side of 2/3rds of the way to the cut-off]. See this map [the Zoe Study] we derive that data from [zoom in, max. – = three times, top right, on a computer – to make each region large enough to click/tap]. By reading the same data at the same time we do, you can stay abreast of our decisions.
